Combustion, the heat from hundreds of fast-moving engine parts, and external conditions can all raise the temperature in your engine to dangerous levels. The heat from your engine is transferred by liquid coolant to the radiator, where the heat is removed by airflow through the radiator grille. A radiator can suffer wear and tear, and you may find you need a radiator repair. Your Chrysler dealer in Corsicana, TX can fix any radiator problems for you.

Broken Radiator Fan

When your engine temperature gets too high, liquid coolant is released and its special properties allow it to absorb heat. The hot coolant is carried into the radiator where the liquid enters numerous rows of thin aluminum tubes. Air blows into your engine through the radiator as you drive, and as the air flows over the tubes it cools the liquid inside. The coolant is pumped out of the radiator and begins the process again until your engine temperature returns to normal.

To prevent your engine from overheating when it’s idling, the radiator has an attached fan. This fan blows over the radiator tubes and this cools the liquid. The fan can wear out or seize, and this will cause the engine temperature to climb when you’re stationary. If the fan is damaged, we will, unfortunately, have to replace the radiator as the fan is a permanent attachment.

Worn Radiator Hoses

The radiator is attached to the cooling system by thick rubber hoses. These hoses are made from reinforced rubber and they’re designed to withstand the high pressure of the cooling system and the near-constant flow of hot coolant through them. The hose at the top of the radiator brings coolant into the radiator and the hose at the bottom takes coolant out of the radiator.

Although the hoses are strong, they need to be regularly checked during your scheduled service for damage. Due to the stress of high temperatures, high pressure, and age, the hoses become less supple and can develop surface cracks. These cracks can grow and coolant will leak out, which reduces the pressure in the cooling system and increases your engine temperature.

Leaking Coolant

Leaking pink, green, or yellow liquid means you have a coolant leak and it needs to be repaired ASAP. Coolant is essential for the cooling system as it’s used to transfer the heat from the engine to the radiator. Without this liquid, which is a mix of antifreeze and water, there is no way to reduce the engine temperature.

Coolant can leak from several different places including the radiator cap, a worn hose, and a hole in the radiator. Our technicians will find the source of the leak and either repair the damaged part or replace it.

Under normal conditions, your radiator will last for many years, and regular maintenance can extend its life. If your car develops a radiator problem, call us at Brinson CDJR and we’ll fix it.
