Your engine’s fuel economy and efficiency are some of the many reasons you chose a Chrysler. All mechanical systems require regular services to keep working at their best, and the engine is no exception. Age, wear, and damage can lead to engine problems. If your engine has a problem, your Chrysler dealer can fix it. These are a few signs that your engine could be in trouble.

Worn Timing Chain

Everything in your engine requires precise timing to operate efficiently. The timing chain synchronizes the camshaft at the top of your engine with the crankshaft at the bottom of your engine. This allows the valves and pistons, among other components, to work correctly. A well-maintained and serviced timing chain can easily last for 300,000 miles.

We routinely examine your timing chain as part of your regular service. If the timing chain isn’t checked, it can stretch slightly, and the camshaft and crankshaft will be out of sync. You’ll notice engine misfirings and may also hear a rattling noise from the loose chain. As time passes, these problems will become more frequent and cause engine damage. We’ll tighten or replace the chain to fix this.

Clogged Air Filter

Your engine requires large amounts of clean air for combustion. The air filter is installed just inside the radiator grille. As air passes through the grille, it enters the air filter. This filter traps dirt and other debris before the air enters your engine. The filter will eventually become clogged with this debris and prevent enough air from reaching your engine.

A lack of air in the engine means your engine will become fuel-rich. Air is essential for combustion as spark plugs require air to ignite. A fuel-rich engine will cause knocking sounds and misfiring and can damage the spark plugs and cylinders. We can quickly replace the filter, and this engine problem will disappear.

Oil Leaks

Your engine depends on the constant flow of oil. This oil lubricates all the moving parts, helps to reduce the engine temperature, and enables your engine to operate smoothly. Engine oil contains a variety of additives that prevent rust and reduce the build-up of debris. Oil is slowly consumed as it circulates, which makes it essential to keep an eye on your oil level.

Rust or other damage to the engine can cause a leak. Leaking oil will increase your engine temperature, and cause damage to vital engine components. We can trace the source of the leak and fix it.
